PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA) has set a new benchmark in Indonesia’s coal mining industry by becoming the first opencast coal mine in the region to adopt automation technology. This groundbreaking initiative, implemented at PAMA’s Kalimantan site, is powered by RCT’s advanced automation solutions.
Advancing Dozer Automation for Safety
PAMA has integrated automation into its fleet of Komatsu dozers, including the D155 and D375 models. These dozers are now equipped with cutting-edge line-of-sight control and portable vision systems, enhancing operator safety and visibility in challenging mining environments.
“This marks a historic milestone in improving operational safety management within Indonesia’s coal mining sector,” said Pak Ridha, Head of the SHE Management Development Department.
Mining operations inherently involve high-risk areas, such as waterlogged zones, steep cliffs, unstable terrain, and land-clearing sites. By shifting from manual operation to automation, PAMA significantly reduces operational hazards.
RCT’s Role in Revolutionizing Mining Safety
Shane Smith, RCT’s Account Manager, emphasized that their technology is designed to enhance workplace safety by eliminating the need for operators to remain inside hazardous zones.
“The automation solution removes operators from dangerous environments, allowing them to control the dozers remotely from a safe location on-site,” Smith explained.
Tailings ponds and dams are particularly risky areas due to the potential for landslides and equipment entrapment. The deployment of automation addresses these risks, making operations more secure and efficient.
RCT’s specialized division, RCT Custom, played a crucial role in tailoring this solution to PAMA’s specific requirements by incorporating a portable vision system.
“Our custom department ensures that we meet the precise needs of our clients. Delivering purpose-built solutions is a core value at RCT,” Smith added.
Strengthening PAMA’s Competitive Edge
Collaborating with PAMA has been a seamless process for RCT.
“The PAMA team has been highly professional and receptive, demonstrating a strong understanding of the technology,” said Smith.
As PAMA continues refining and expanding its automation capabilities, the company aims to strengthen its competitive position and ensure long-term business sustainability.
Ridha reaffirmed PAMA’s commitment to further developing automation expertise, positioning the company as a leader in Indonesia’s mining industry.
